John Robert Snyder, 40, of Dallas Center was arrested Monday on charges of second-offense domestic abuse assault, second-degree criminal mischief and interference with official acts.

A Dallas Center man was tasered Tuesday in the course of his arrest on active warrants for assault and criminal mischief.

John Robert Snyder, 40, of 18811 S Ave., Dallas Center, was charged with second-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness, second-degree criminal mischief and interference with official acts.

The alleged assault and criminal mischief occurred about 11:30 a.m. Monday in the 18800 block of S Avenue, where Dallas County Deputy Sheriffs responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

Snyder left the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement, but the deputies made contact with the victim, who told the deputies that Snyder “physically assaulted her the afternoon of” Sunday “and again today,” according to court records.

The victim told the deputies that Snyder allegedly “repeatedly pulled her hair” and “placed his hand on her throat and choked her,” according to court records.

The deputies observed on the victim “cuts and bruising on her body” that the victim said were caused by Snyder’s physical assaults.

The victim told the officers that she allegedly saw Snyder “deliberately drive his vehicle into the side of” her van, “causing significant damage to driver’s side” and that Snyder also allegedly “took a chain and used it to strike the windshield of her van, causing significant damage to the windshield,” according to court records.

About 12:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 28300 block of 190th Street, a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff initiated a traffic stop of a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, “known to be driven by John Robert Snyder,” according to court records.

The deputies made contact with Snyder. When Snyder ceased to comply with orders, a deputy “deployed his taser,” striking Snyder “in the chest and lower leg area.” The two deputies then “forced” Snyder “to the ground, where he continued to passively resist but was then placed in handcuffs behind his back,” according to court records.

Snyder is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 19 in Dallas County District Court.

Snyder was convicted of interference with official acts-bodily injury in 2020 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness in 2018 in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of fourth-degree criminal mischief in 2018 in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of third-degree criminal mischief in 2018 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of interference with official acts-bodily injury in 2005 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of fifth-degree criminal mischief in 2004 in Dallas County District Court.
