Entergy Mississippi LLC, which provides electricity to roughly 459,000 customers in 45 counties across the state, is building a new power station for the first time in 50 years. The new natural gas power station is expected to be completed in 2028.

“As our customers’ needs and environmental factors evolve, so must our fleet,” Haley Fisackerly, president and CEO of Entergy Mississippi, said on Monday. “We’re investing in cleaner, more efficient power generation now, to help us keep bills lower for customers than they otherwise would be in the future.”

The advanced facility will be the first combined-cycle combustion turbine power station the company has built from the ground up. The facility is a dual-fuel technology — while natural gas is the primary resource, the facility will be designed to support blended hydrogen to produce reliable energy, according to the company.

Eventually, the new power station will replace the Gerald Andrus Steam Electric Station in Greenville, Miss., which will be retired, says Entergy Mississippi.

Replacing such older power plants with more advanced and efficient technology means more electricity will be produced from the same amount of fuel while reducing carbon emissions, the utility says.

In fact, during the past two decades, the company has bought three natural gas power stations in Mississippi: the Attala Plant in Sallis in 2006; the Hinds Energy Facility in Jackson in 2012; and the Choctaw Energy Facility in French Camp in 2019.

In addition to the current natural gas units, the Sunflower Solar Station near Ruleville and the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Port Gibson are generating emission-free electricity and contributing to the company’s power generation mix, according to Entergy Mississippi, which purchased the solar facility and owns a portion of the nuclear plant.

So they can sell the power to Tennessee and Louisiana? Like they do the nuclear power plant? We BUY our from surrounding states. It’s all a fraud.
