A 44-year-old Douglas woman, Kimberly McKinnon, was recently taken into custody on three charges, including one felony, following an incident on August 23.

Due to OCGA 49-5-40, an incident report was not available. However, copies of the arrest warrants detail the reasons for each charge.

McKinnon was arrested on charges of cruelty to children in the first degree (felony), simple battery - family violence, and cruelty to children in the third degree.

A warrant for count one states that McKinnon committed cruel and excessive physical or mental pain by cussing, yelling, and hitting a child in the face in front of another minor.

On count two, simple battery - family violence, the warrant states that McKinnon intentionally made contact of an insulting and provoking nature against a child by hitting her in the face with hands/fist multiple times.

Count three stems from McKinnon allegedly committing the act of simple battery in front of a minor.

At the time of her arrest, McKinnon was a teacher in Lowndes County and had previously worked at an elementary school in Coffee County.

McKinnon has since been released from custody.

My dad use to whip us with a belt. Mom used a switch and Grandma would slap you in the face. I have never been in trouble with the law. Spare the rod and spoil the child.
