Georgia Man Pleads Guilty to Stealing More than 60 Firearms from Pawn Shop

Officials with the Middle District of Georgia recently announced that Rontavious Jamal Jackson, a 33-year-old from Cordele, Georgia, has admitted guilt to the charge of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon after his involvement in a burglary where 62 firearms were stolen from a Macon pawn shop in 2023. Jackson faces a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison, along with three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.

Court documents show that on April 5, 2023, Jackson and an accomplice were captured on surveillance cameras breaking into Howard’s Pawn & Jewelry by smashing a hole in the wall. They collected 62 firearms and fled the scene. Investigators later recovered 32 of these stolen weapons at Jackson's Cordele home, confirming their serial numbers matched those reported stolen. Nine gun price tags, ammunition, firearm parts, and ten magazines were also found. The remaining 30 firearms have not been recovered.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a DOJ initiative designed to combat violent crime and gun violence through comprehensive law enforcement and community cooperation.

The case involved multiple agencies, including the Bibb County and Crisp County Sheriff’s Offices, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Department of Community Supervision (DCS). Assistant U.S. Attorney Joy Odom led the prosecution, and the case underscores the effectiveness of collaborative efforts in addressing serious gun crimes and deterring convicted felons from firearm possession.

The court has yet to schedule his sentencing, and federal law mandates no parole.
