Since the beginning of August, ten individuals who worked in law enforcement in Georgia counties have been arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, primarily on charges related to offenses against inmates. The GBI's most recent case of this kind resulted in the arrest of a 39-year-old jailer from Monroe County.

According to officials with the GBI, Jeffrey Sean Day, a former Walton County Sheriff's Office jailer, was recently charged with aggravated battery, cruelty to inmates, and violation of oath of office.

Officials with the Walton County Sheriff's Office requested the GBI's assistance in the investigation on August 1, 2024, following allegations that Day physically injured a handcuffed Walton County inmate on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

According to the GBI, the inmate sustained injuries that required medical attention.

Following his arrest, Day was detained and booked into the Walton County Jail. A copy of the current roster at Walton County Jail shows that Day has been released from custody at their facility.

GBI officials ask anyone with information to contact their office at 770-307-3080 (for anonymous tips) or the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Athens, GA, at 706-552-2309.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), online at [https://gbi.georgia.gov/submit-tips-online](https://gbi.georgia.gov/submit-tips-online), or by downloading the See Something, Send Something mobile app.
