Where are the escape clauses in County Jail food and commissary contracts?

Regarding the June 4 front-page story on the nutrition of Cuyahoga County Jail inmates, which asks what incentive there is “to serve quality food if the parent company is profiting on the back end off of commissary sales?” Let’s set aside the usual comments as to who may or may not care what is served to inmates and/or how it is provided.

It seems the key issues are the nutritional value of the actual meals provided and the short- and long-term costs from an economic and wellness perspective.

That said, if the county has awarded contracts which appear to be going awry, there should be an option of suspending service until all parties involved come to a resolution.
