“This child was tied up in a plastic bag and thrown into woods like a bag of trash,” Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman said at a news conference announcing Jiwani’s arrest.

Investigators were able to identify Jiwani as the child’s mother using DNA that led them to the father, who the sheriff said they believe was unaware Jiwani was even pregnant at the time.

Sheriff Freeman said detectives believe Jiwani had given birth to her daughter in a vehicle before allegedly putting her in the plastic bag and abandoning her in the woods.

Jiwani was being held at the Forsyth County jail without bond.
