Two incidents occurred in Cabell County, West Virginia this week. In the first incident, a vehicle crashed into Tudor's Biscuit World on Route 60 between Barboursville and Huntington. One person was injured and taken to a local hospital, but no further details about their injuries were available. The second incident involved a vehicle going into a pond in Milton near Pumpkin Park. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the driver was able to escape the vehicle and was treated by emergency crews. The Milton Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene to ensure no additional people were involved and to remove debris from the pond.

Cross Lanes woman sentenced for defrauding the American Red Cross
CROSS LANES, W.Va. — A Cross Lanes resident has been sentenced to three years of federal probation for committing wire fraud. The United States Attorney’s Office said Thursday that Tonja Oakes, 58, will serve eight months of her probation on home detention. She must also pay $21,943.80 in restitution for defrauding the American Red Cross (ARC) while being employed at its office in Cross Lanes.

In the first incident, Shawn Michael Patton, a 47-year-old man, was sentenced to 11 years and three months in prison for distributing methamphetamine. He sold 2 ounces of methamphetamine to a confidential informant in exchange for $700. In the second incident, Sean Patrick Boyd Jr., a 26-year-old man, pleaded guilty to receipt of stolen money in a COVID-19 relief fraud investigation. He defrauded the Paycheck Protection Program of $20,832 by applying for a business loan under his name.

Kanawha County babysitter pleads not guilty to child neglect resulting in death
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A babysitter facing charges of child neglect causing death in connection with the death of a two-year-old boy from Dunbar pleaded not guilty Monday. Brittany Napier, 31, appeared in Kanawha County Circuit Court before Judge Kenneth Ballard. She was indicted in connection with the death of Za’khi Williams after he was found unresponsive at Napier’s home on Parkway Drive in Dunbar on July 11. Investigators said that Napier placed a mattress on top of the child’s Pack ‘n Play while he was in it.
