Convicted Alabama felon sentenced to federal prison in Cullman County armed kidnapping
A convicted felon has been sentenced to federal prison in the 2022 kidnapping of a woman in Cullman County. U.S. District Court Judge Madeline H. Haikala sentenced 52-year-old Jeffery Barton, of Guin, to more than 19 years in prison. The announcement was made Tuesday by Northern District of Alabama U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona and ATF Special Agent in Charge Marcus Watson.

In the aftermath of a deadly fire in Cullman County, a third suspect has been detained in relation to the homicide of 45-year-old Noah Waters. Charity Dawn Hutton, a 33-year-old Cullman woman, has been indicted on serious charges of capital murder during a robbery and capital murder during arson. The grim sequence of events unfolded on May 13, when first responders were summoned to a residential fire on County Road 1635, only to discover Waters' body with gunshot wounds.
