It was a high-scoring affair in the Section VII Class D title game, but it was No. 2 Schroon Lake Bolton High School softball who racked up the most runs.
A seven-run outburst in the top of the fourth inning helped the combo team take down No. 1 Crown Point High School 15-11. The Wild Eagles were at one point down 6-2 entering the frame and knew they needed that run to kick them into gear.
"We knew that we really needed to break it open like we do," said Schroon Lake-Botlon junior Ila Hubert. "When we get going like that, it's hard to slow us down."
Schroon Lake Bolton freshman Jadynn Egloff helped lead that charge with a two-RBI base hit in the top of the fourth, a part of five RBI day for her at the plate.
"Once you get going, once you get a streak, it just keeps going," Egloff said. "I felt really good when I got that first hit (in the top of the first). I knew I was confident in myself."
Schroon Lake Bolton first-year Riley Huck also hit well, going 4-4 with four RBIs in the game.
With the win, Schroon Lake Bolton takes their straight second title after taking down Boquet Valley High School in the 2022 Class D title game.
Last year the squad came up short in the New York Class D state tournament, losing in the regional finals. This year, Schroon Lake Bolton will look to rewrite history.
"We all would really like to get one step further than we did last year," Hubert said. "Our goal is to win that game and go even further."
They will get their chance on Saturday, June 3, at 4:30 p.m. as they face Section II's Salem High School at Morse Field in Glenns Falls, New York.
