CROSS LANES, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Kanawha County man faces charges following an incident in which a suspect allegedly fired a shot at anN individual attempting to retrieve their own ATV.
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office reports that, Saturday, May 27, 2023, around Doc Bailey Road and Kelly Road in Cross Lanes, Kanawha County Deputy Sheriffs were dispatched to a “shots fired” call.
Deputies were informed that the victim of an ATV theft had discovered the vehicle in the area in question, and a shot was fired at him as he made attempts to retrieve it.
As Deputies began canvasing the location, they spotted an individual running into a wooded area. A short distance away in the weeds, the abandoned ATV was discovered. This ATV was found to be a match to the 2006 Yamaha Grizzly which had been reported stolen.
Sergeant J.A. Ratliff of Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office deployed his Bloodhound K-9 partner “Bailee” in the area where the ATV had been abandoned by the suspect.
Bailee acquired the scent associated with the suspect and was immediately able to lead deputies to a residence located in the 5200 block of Kelly Road.
Deputies were taken around the rear of the residence to an outdoor shed where the K9’s handler, Sergeant Ratliff was alerted that the suspect had been located.
Sergeant Ratliff was able to see the suspect hiding under the shed upon further inspection, and the suspect was given orders to surrender. The individual eventually complied with deputies’ commands and was apprehended.
Brian Matthew Walker, 31-years old of Poca, West Virginia was arrested and faces charges of receiving or transferring stolen goods. Walker was arraigned in Kanawha County Magistrate Court and was released on a $1500.00 personal recognizance bond.
