CRANFORD, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A dead cat was put in the mailbox of a home in New Jersey over the weekend, and now police are searching for the man they believe is responsible.

Surveillance video released by police in Cranford this week shows the hazy, hooded figure walking down a sidewalk with something in his right hand just after 10 p.m. Sunday.

Police said that something was a dead cat—and that he placed the remains in a mailbox.

Video shows the man walking from the sidewalk, up a driveway and to the mailbox.

Police described him as a person of interest in the disturbing incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Matthew Siessel, of the Cranford Police Department, at 908-709-7209.
