Louisville, KY – Residents across central Kentucky and southern Indiana should prepare for widespread frost Friday night, November 6, followed by an increased threat of freezing temperatures Saturday night into Sunday morning, with some communities potentially dropping to around 30 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, frost is expected to develop across much of the region Friday night into Saturday morning, creating concerns for sensitive outdoor vegetation and agricultural operations.

Forecasters expect overnight temperatures to fall into the mid-30s across most of central Kentucky, with colder conditions possible in low-lying communities west of Louisville and northeast of Lexington.

Those colder locations could experience temperatures as low as 30 degrees.

The National Weather Service has highlighted areas west of the Louisville metropolitan region and northeast of Lexington as having a 30% to 50% chance of reaching freezing temperatures during the weekend cold spell.

The first round of frost is expected Friday night into Saturday morning, followed by a more significant freeze threat Saturday night into Sunday morning, November 8.

The forecast graphic also identifies a Frost Advisory across a broad portion of Kentucky and southern Indiana.

Residents with outdoor gardens, flowers and other temperature-sensitive plants are encouraged to move vulnerable vegetation indoors before temperatures fall overnight.

Agricultural producers should also take precautions.

The National Weather Service specifically warns livestock owners to remove grazing animals from pastures containing plants capable of producing prussic acid, which can become hazardous under certain frost-related conditions.

The approaching cold could mark an important seasonal change for communities that have not yet experienced widespread frost or freezing temperatures this fall.

Residents around Louisville, Lexington, Elizabethtown, Bowling Green and surrounding communities should monitor localized forecasts, as temperatures and freeze potential will vary by location.

The National Weather Service recommends taking protective measures before Friday evening and remaining prepared for additional cold conditions through early Sunday.
