Cottonwood Fire Department gets new state-of-the-art fire engine

COTTONWOOD, Ala (WDHN) — The City of Cottonwood has announced the newest addition to the Cottonwood Fire Department fleet, Engine One!

Engine One, manufactured by Deep South Trucks, is a 2,000-gallon-per-minute pumper that can hold 1,700 gallons on board. It is equipped with International Organization for Standardization and National Fire Protection Association-compliant equipment.

The Cottonwood Fire Department is made up of 17 volunteer members who operate Engine One, Engine Three a 1,500-gallon-per-minute pumper, a 3,500-gallon tanker, an off-road brush firefighting truck, and Engine Two 1,000 gallon per minute pumper with 500 gallons on board.

The CFD covers roughly 45 square miles in Houston County and answers more than 100 service calls annually.

The new engine cost the City of Cottonwood and the Cottonwood Fire Department approximately $306,000. The Houston County Commission donated $68,000 to buy and equip the new engine.
