Food trucks in the park? Eugene set to open up more public spaces for local vendors
Eugene wants to liven up the summer parks experience with a new pilot program designed to draw in food truck and cart vendors. Three park locations in town allow food vendors to conduct business already — part of Alton Baker Park, Oakmont Park and Washington Jefferson Park. This expanded program allows vendors to obtain permits for these parks and an additional three: Skinner Butte RiverPlay, Striker Field Park and Maurie Jacobs Park.

Soothing lo-fi music emanates from the speakers as the gas fireplace warms the room. Clad in slippers, up to eight guests are welcomed in by the “mrrps” of the lounge’s furry residents. For the next 50 minutes, visitors to the Eugene Springfield Cat Lounge are encouraged to play, cuddle and bond with the cats and kittens fostered on site.

• It’s our pleasure to see that Eugene photographer Tarrah Krajnak has been honored as a 2024 Guggenheim Fellow. Krajnak, an assistant professor of art at the University of Oregon, works in photography, performance and poetry. Born in an orphanage in Peru, she was adopted by a Czech-American family and grew up in Ohio. Her work can be seen in such lofty institutions as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Right in downtown Springfield at Emerald Art Center, there are openings for arts and technology summer camps for youth 9-17 years, with 50% off scholarships for ALL low-income families.
