Man sentenced to 19 years in prison for attempted murder in Creswell hammer attack case
A Lane County Circuit Court Judge sentenced a 59-year-old man on Monday to a minimum of 19 years in prison for the attempted murder of a man in Creswell in 2022. In January, a 12-person jury convicted Steven Daniel Wages of two counts of first-degree assault and one count of second-degree attempted murder for the crime, which involved an apparent hammer attack during a dispute that took place at a home near North Mill Street and Pearce Way.
Man accused of aggressive driving arrested for allegedly driving impaired
EUGENE, Ore. – A man who was accused of aggressive driving behavior was arrested on Tuesday evening in Eugene for allegedly driving impaired, according to court records. A family reported to Eugene police on March 27 an alleged drunk driver in a pickup truck who was tailgating them, honking, and following them as the family drove downtown. Police had already been on the lookout for a drunk driver in a GMC pickup that was first reported to be near Hunsaker Lane and River Road at about 6 p.m. on the same night. While looking for this truck, police received a second call from the driver of a Kia Optima who said a truck was behind their car near West 7th Avenue and Washington Street. The officer who staged a few blocks away in the Whiteaker area eventually spotted the Kia and the truck as they passed through the area and pulled over the GMC’s driver, who Eugene police said briefly drove up onto the sidewalk and down the road a short distance before coming to a stop in a parking lot.

Two Eugene men charged in multiple 2023 burglaries
EUGENE, Ore. – Two Eugene men have been charged in a series of burglaries that happened during the summer of 2023, according to court records. Court records show that Adam Nikolas Haynes, 31, and Zachary Joseph Ortiz, 29, have each been charged with five counts of second-degree burglary. The charges stem from incidents that occurred in August and September of 2023, with the first incident that targeted a Thai food truck occurring on August 25 in which Haynes and Ortiz allegedly stole the keys to the truck and $10 in change, according to court documents. According to a probable cause affidavit, the Patterson Social Student Apartment Building’s leasing office was targeted in September with a laptop, a number of packages left for residents, and a metal push cart were taken. The Fat Shack was also burglarized twice in September, on September 4 when $365 was taken from a cash register and three tablets were taken, and again on September 16 when $340 and three tablets again were taken, according to the affidavit. According to the police officer’s report, on September 17, tools were stolen from the maintenance room of the student apartment building.
