After back-to-back losses in the Pac-12 baseball tournament, Oregon State will not be playing another game at Goss Stadium this season.
Instead, the Beavers will be traveling to Baton Rouge to face Sam Houston State in the opening round in hopes of coming out of the regional with a win or two against a LSU team that was ranked No. 1 in the nation for a good portion of the season.
But the Beavers are excited to play in one of the best atmospheres in college baseball, knowing that wherever they play they will have to face and beat the best teams to continue on the road to Omaha.
"I know as you look at the regional, a lot of the guys are excited about each of those teams and who they're going to play,” says OSU Head Coach Mitch Canham. “They all follow college baseball very closely and they know who the elite players are on each of the teams, so if they got good pitching, all of our hitters are excited about facing good pitching. If they got good hitters, our pitchers are excited about facing those guys and getting them out, so that's kind of the exciting part. That's what I heard coming out of the selection show."
"Yeah, we're going to be playing in front of a lot of people,” says Beavers sophomore infielder Travis Bazzana. “It's the biggest stage most of the guys have ever played on, but slowing the game down and understanding you do these things day in and day out, and if you play your role, we're going to win it."
Canham said, “You can either be sad or mad,” and it's ok to be mad because you can use that mad as fuel - and that's what the Beavers will be doing as they take on Sam Houston State on Friday at 5 p.m.
