Oregon State Adds Transfer Kelsey Rees

May 30, 2023 | Women's Basketball

CORVALLIS – Oregon State added size and experience to its 2023-24 roster with the addition of Kelsey Rees, a 6-5 forward who spent three seasons in the Pac-12 at Utah.

"We are excited to announce the signing of Kelsey Rees," Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck said. "I am so impressed by the person she is and the way she competes on the court. She is a versatile player who can play both post positions and is an offensive threat from all over the court. In addition to her low-post game, she has a beautiful three point shot, is an aggressive driver, and outstanding passer. Defensively, Kelsey is a tough defender and consistently blocks and alters shots and will fight for every rebound with intensity. She is a perfect complement to our roster as well as our community and we are happy she chose to be a part of Beaver Nation and our basketball family!"

"I am so happy to be a part of the Oregon State women's basketball family," Rees said. "Coach Rueck and staff have a long history of developing strong and versatile players and helping them to reach their full potential. I am excited to see where this team can go! Cannot wait to get to Corvallis to start this next part of my journey! Go Beavs!"

Rees brings plenty of experience to Corvallis with 83 games played and 19 starts under her belt with the Utes. The junior also has international experience, competing for the Australian National Team at the 2021 U19 World Cup, 2019 U17 FIBA Oceania Championship and the 2017 U16 FIBA Asian Championship.

Rees helped the U19 team to a silver medal in 2021, pulling down 13 rebounds while blocking two shots against Egypt before grabbing eight more boards vs. Argentina in the round of 16. She led the Aussies to gold at the 2019 U17 Oceania Championship and was rewarded with a spot on the All Star Five after averaging 13.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game with three double-doubles.

In 2022-23, Rees averaged 3.0 points per game on 44.9 percent shooting from the field for the Utes. The year prior she started 17 games while averaging 4.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game while making 50.9 percent of her shots.

Rees is a defensive presence in the paint, averaging at least two blocks per 40 minutes in all three of her seasons at Utah. She brings 68 career blocks to Corvallis, along with 27 steals.

Off the court, the junior is a two-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll honoree. She earned the academic honors in both years she was eligible.

Rees is the sixth addition to the Oregon State program for 2023-24, joining fellow Pac-12 transfer Sela Heide, JuCo addition Susana Yepes and freshmen Donovyn Hunter, Kennedie Shuler and Dominika Paurová.
