The Oregon/Oregon State rivalry series is back in action this weekend when the Ducks and Beavers’ softball programs square off in Corvallis..
One OSU player will be making her rivalry debut on Friday.
Catcher Abby Doerr is a junior at Oregon State after transferring from the University of Alabama last year.
Despite just a few games under her belt with the beavers, Abby knows all about the in-state rivalry because she's a Eugene native...
Abby was a standout athlete during her time at Marist High School, earning first team all-state honors twice.
After three seasons with the Crimson Tide, Abby made her way back to her home state; joining the Beavers.
And she's made an impact right away.
Doerr leads the team in RBI's, total bases and is tied for the lead in home runs with seven.
Abby says she's truly enjoying her time back in Oregon.
"I love being closer to family and I know Oregon so I get to bring my teammates everywhere and show them around and stuff. I'm really loving it. We have so much fun all the time, the energy in the dugout and on the field, we love playing softball and being together," said Doerr.
Laura berg, beavers head coach
Beaver’s Head Coach Laura Berg said, "Abby's experience that she's brought is big time for us. She's come up clutch. She is tied with Frankie with home runs on the team and has come up clutch with some of her hits and her timely home runs for us."
When the Ducks and Beavers face each other this weekend, Abby will be facing a former teammate and friend in the opposite dugout.
Abby's high school teammate at Marist, Ariel Carlson, is an outfielder for the Ducks. Abby says she's excited to see Ariel this weekend.
You can catch the Ducks and Beavers series in Corvallis. Game one is set for Friday at 6 p.m. On the Pac-12 Network.
