The Oregon State gymnastics team defeated Utah last Saturday, putting the Beavers in a tie for the Pac-12 title.
It's an accomplishment the team couldn't have done without one of the best gymnasts in the country.
We sat down with Olympic gold medalist Jade Carey to learn about her journey to becoming a Beaver.
"My parents owned a gym when I was born, so I just grew up always playing around in the gym, trying new things, definitely scaring them sometimes."
"I didn't know what I wanted to do totally. I knew I wanted to be a part of a college team when I got older, so I actually committed here (Oregon State) my freshman year of high school. But then I had a really successful year in 2016 and that kind of opened my eyes to the elite world and that's when I decided I wanted to pursue that."
"When I committed, they were a pretty strong team and I was just really excited to be a part of that and it looked like so much fun and they continued to do really well and of course they had their ups and their downs, but just the way this team has always showed a fight was something that I knew I wanted to be a part of."
"I remember one of the first times we did a show day in the gym here, I had 20 girls screaming for me and actually threw me off at first because I was like, 'oh my gosh, this is so cool.' I've never had so many girls rooting for me."
"I always thought that I had to be super serious competing, but throughout college, I've actually learned that I do better when I just allow myself to do what I do and have fun and that's definitely something that I'm trying to carry over to elite because I think that could totally change the game for them and even us as Team USA. If we're just having fun and enjoying ourselves, we're going to do that much better."
