Riverhead Police are investigating a motor vehicle accident on West Lane in Aquebogue last night that injured a woman walking along the road with her two young children. Police said a woman, age 38, walking with her 7-year-old child and a 4-month-old infant, who was in a baby stroller, was struck by a car operated by a 66-year-old woman at about 8:13 p.m. Tuesday.

Town OKs increased borrowing to pay cost of new upgrade at sewage treatment plant, which rose nearly 80% since 2022
An $8 million increase in the estimated cost of a new upgrade to the town’s wastewater treatment facilities was approved by the Town Board at last week’s meeting. The cost of the project has spiked about 80% since the board first approved the plan two years ago. It was then estimated by consulting engineers H2M to carry a $10.5 million price tag. But when bids came in this year, the cost spiked to an estimated $18.65 million, according to H2M Senior Vice President Chris Weiss. The increased costs were largely the result of COVID supply chain issues, Weiss told the Town Board at a June 4 public hearing. There were also some design changes, such as an increase in the size of the storage building, H2M wastewater engineer Nick Bono said.
