Medley shelter to host adoption event this weekend
MIAMI - If you've been thinking about getting a new furry friend to have around the house, this might be your weekend. Miami-Dade Animal Services will host a Love's Full Bloom adoption event at its shelter in Medley. Several years ago, Animal Services opened a new air-conditioned main facility in Doral. Excessive Heat Takes Toll On Shelter Pets In Miami-Dade
Another record-breaking heat day in South Florida with highs today in the mid-90's and heat index values making it feel like it's over one hundred degrees. Flora Beal with Miami-Dade animal services says they're taking steps to keep pets cool at their overflow facility in Medley. She says they have been putting ice in the water, using inflatable pools and fans and only walking dogs for about ten minutes in the morning and when the sun goes down at night. Pets are also being monitored for heavy breathing.
