Carbon America mobilizing to access Denova well
Carbon America provided a brief update on its project to Washington County Commissioners last Friday, April 12. In an email from Jennifer Webster, who is assisting the team at Carbon America with community and stakeholder outreach for the proposed Yuma and Sterling Ethanol Carbon Capture Project, she said that the Carbon America team and its contractors will be mobilizing early next week to access the Denova well that they drilled in Washington County last year, in case they have any questions from residents.
Leonhardt pleads not guilty, case set for jury trial
Chad Leonhardt has pleaded not guilty in the September 2022 death of Otis resident, Tresa Juhl. Leonhardt had a virtual Arraignment Wednesday, April 3, in which he pleaded not guilty and set the case for a jury trial. Travis Sides, District Attorney for the 13th Judicial District, told the News-Reporter the actual trial dates were not specifically determined at the Arraignment, but will be decided in the next week or so. Sides said the trial will probably be held sometime in late summer/early fall. A Motions Hearing was scheduled for June 11.
1A track and field report
Area Class 1A track and field athletes should be able to enjoy nicer weather for the second weekend of competition. Tracksters from Otis, Lone Star and Arickaree opened their season last Saturday in the Yuma Early Qualifier, dealing with cold temperatures and a strong wind out of the south. All go to the University Bulldogs Invitational Saturday in Greeley, where it is expected to be around 70 degrees with little wind.
