A man attempted to elude officers on foot after committing a domestic assault, according to the Coos County Sheriff's Office.
Around 10 a.m. Thursday, the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report of a disturbance-in-progress on Matthew Lane in Barview.
As a deputy pulled up to the scene, the suspect, identified as Jason Patterson, 22, of Coos Bay, attempted to ram the deputy’s patrol vehicle.
However, Patterson could not make contact with the patrol vehicle due to the deputy’s "fast and evasive actions," CCSO said.
Patterson then jettisoned his pick-up, as did the deputy.
Patterson faced the deputy, reached into his pocket and said, “Kill me,” the report stated.
Patterson then removed a dark cell phone from his pocket and thrust it toward the deputy like a firearm. The deputy continued giving verbal orders to Patterson, who fled on foot.
"Mr. Patterson kicked the door to a residence, ran through the home, and fled out the back door while continuing to attempt to elude pursuing deputies," CCSO continued.
After a short foot chase, the deputy and officers with Coos Bay Police and Coquille Tribal Police were able to take Patterson into custody.
"An investigation was conducted into the original incident of the disturbance, and as a result, Mr. Patterson was arrested on the charges of domestic menacing and domestic strangulation," CCSO said.
Additional charges are expected due to Patterson’s conduct with the deputy, the report said.
Patterson was transported to the Coos County Jail.
