CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Forest Preserves of Cook County held its annual Live Healthy, Discover Nature Event at Daley Plaza.

The Forest Preserves of Cook County held its annual Live Healthy, Discover Nature Event at Daley Plaza.

Performances from the Najwa Dance Corps and Xochitl-Quetzal Danza Azteca are just a couple of ways the Forest Preserve acknowledges native and indigenous cultures.

Arnold Randall is the General Superintendent of the Forest Preserves of Cook County.

He said he hopes the cultural aspects of the forest preserves draw people in and encourage them to think beyond the city borders.

"The forest preserves are both in the city and a lot of them are in the nearby suburbs, so you could get from downtown Chicago, you could get there in 20 minutes to a forest preserve- not very far at all."

He said this year, the forest preserve is hosting more hiking programs and special events, and continuing popular activities like camping and zip lining.
