Alexis Prue, an Horry County wife and mother, survived an unexpected cardiac arrest while on vacation in Florida back in January.
On Sunday, a fundraiser was held at the Historic Peanut Warehouse in Conway to celebrate Alexis’ progress in her recovery.
It was called "Alexis Prue’s Second Chance at Life."
More than 200 people were in attendance and there was food, music and dancing, but at the core of it, the night was about love, gratitude and the power of prayer.
Her husband, Andrew, gave an emotional speech.
"My wife, she’s the strongest woman I know. A true superhero and an inspiration for many around the world," Andrew said.
Alexis’ story has been heard across the country, but the Prue's said they couldn’t have made it through without the prayers from the community.
"It really means a lot to me and I appreciate each and every one of you," Alexis said.
It’s because of this support that the couple is deciding to give back by starting the Alexis Prue Foundation, which pays for individuals to get CPR certified.
"You don’t get affected until it affects you. Whether it be a family member, a friend, a loved one or a stranger in a supermarket. Cardiac arrest, heart attacks, things of that nature can happen at any point of time," Andrew said.
Alexis’ cardiac arrest has left her in a wheelchair, but not even that could stop her from dancing with her husband to their wedding song.
The first event for the Alexis Prue Foundation is on July 22 at Beach Church, where they will pay for people to get trained in CPR.
All the proceeds of this event went towards Alexis’ medical expenses.
A portion also went to the Open Arms Foundation, which helped the Prues while Alexis was receiving treatment in Florida.
