Track rewind: check out how local track teams fared recently

WATERVLIET — The Constantine boys picked up first place in the 51st annual Watervliet Invitational on Friday. The Falcons piled up 68.5 points to claim first.

Bennett VandenBerg and Lucas Stears combined to take first in the distance with a combined distance of 261-4.5 feet. VandenBerg and Canon Manley teamed up to win the shot put with a combined distance of 88-7.5 feet. VandenBerg also broke his own school record in the discus on Wednesday at 170-9 feet.

The mile relay clocked a winning time as well. There, the team of Robbie King, Brody Jones, Isaac Moore and Rushawn James posted 3:35.96 to win.

There were a handful of second-place finishes for the Falcons.

Brody Jones and Bear Geibe took second in the pole vault at 22-6 feet. The mid-distance relay, where two runners ran an 800 and two ran a 400, saw Constantine's Geibe, Donovan Miller, Logan Patmalnieks and King post a time of 6:15.79 for second.

The 100 meter shuttle hurdles saw Justin Hendrix, Kingston Rhodes, Cooper McGee and Michael Featherstone post a time of 54.68 seconds for second.

Constantine also picked up victories for the boys, beating Schoolcraft 88-49 and Kalamazoo Christian 113-24, last week.

Three Rivers at Portage

Three Rivers competed at the Portage Northern Invitational on Friday. Thee Cats were sixth for the boys with 65.67 points and seventh for the girls at 64 points.

St. Joseph won the invitational for both the boys (112 points) and girls (138 points).

Allie McGlothlen leaped to first place in the high jump, clearing 5-1 feet. Megan Hammon came in second in the discus at 86-6 feet and Lillie Kerr was second in the two-mile run at 13:13.56, a personal record.

Emma Martin, Cece Kangas, Megan Hammon and Breanna Pangle posted a time of 1:10.45 for third in the 400 throwers relay.

For the boys, the mile relay team of Kyler Copenhaver, Brayden Carpenter, Charlie Brauer and Sulley Zietlow came in second at 3:35.86. The 400 throwers relay of Robbie Yoder, Max Burg, Travis Nyman and Heston Saunders finished second at 51.34 seconds.

On Thursday, Three Rivers beat both Niles (75-48) and Plainwell (67-56) for the boys. The girls beat Niles (63-48) but fell to Plainwell (87-32).

Bronson, Centreville at Comstock

The Bronson and Centreville track and field teams were at Comstock on Friday. The Centreville girls won with 120.5 points, Bronson came in ninth at 36.5 points. Lawton won the boys (126) while Centreville was sixth (61) and Bronson came in seventh (57).

Centreville's Ellie Miller won the long jump at 15-4 feet, Bronson's Jaiden Hayes was second at 14-6 feet.

The Centreville mile relay team of Ninon Gontier, Berkley Shingledecker, Arianna Six and Ellie Reed won with a time of 4:33.98. The two-mile team of Reed, Shingledecker, Six and Emmy Pritchard came in second at 11:28.00.

Centreville won the 800 relay as Nevaeh Pritchard, Shingledecker, Leah Roberts and Miller came in at 1:58.60.

Reed was second in the mile at 6:17.09 and second in the 800 at 2:44.21.

For the boys, Bronson's Kam Brackett finished second in the 400 at 55.40 seconds. Boston Bucklin finished second at 2:07.58. Stevie Wilson finished second in the 110 hurdles (17.55) and 300 hurdles (44.77).

Centreville's 400 relay team of Declan Kane, Brendan Sre, Carter Cartier and Deandre Stout finished second (45.82). The two-mile relay of Oliver Mildenberg, Micaiah Sylvester, Gavin Palmer and Henry Sloat posted a second-place time of 9:30.14.
