Two Hamburg teachers, whose jobs were cut in proposed budget, leave before end of year
Superintendent Michael Cornell answered parents’ concerns Tuesday about a Spanish and science teacher, whose jobs were being cut, being offered work elsewhere and leaving classes empty before the end of the year.
NY weather: Be prepared for thunderstorms in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties Wednesday evening
The National Weather Service issued a report at 4:26 p.m. on Wednesday for thunderstorms until 7 p.m. for Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties. "Slow moving thunderstorms this late afternoon are producing localized heavy rainfall across the western Southern Tier. These storms, moving northeast to southwest, can produce an inch to inch and a half of rainfall in an hour timeframe. Poor drainage flooding and ponding of water in low-lying areas are likely from these storms. These storms will continue into the early evening, with just an isolated shower remaining through the mid and late evening hours," according to the weather service.
Veggie Wheels® Schedules June 1 Slow Ride
OLEAN, NY — The Veggie Wheels® program will host its fifth annual Slow Ride bicycling fundraiser on June 1 from 10 a.m. to noon. Veggie Wheels® provides fresh, naturally grown fruits and vegetables, free of charge, to low-income, disabled, and elderly residents living in Cattaraugus County. Union St., where the ride will begin and end. The 8-mile journey includes travel along the Allegheny River Trail. Free bike helmets for youths, a basket raffle and bike safety checks will be features of the event. After the ride, participants are invited to stay on campus for the chance to win prizes, have snacks and connect with other riders. Donations of $15 are encouraged and can be made by cash or by check at registration or online. All are welcome to participate. 'Happened out of nowhere': WNY Red Lobster employees left in dark after closures
All four Red Lobster locations in Western New York all had the same sign taped to their doors on Monday reading "this location is closed" — in what appears to be a nationwide occurrence.
Rusty Bones Southtown Antiques
The antiques store at 14218 South Cascade Drive in Springville that used to be “Southtowns Route 219 Antiques” is now officially “Rusty Bones Southtown Antiques”. The new sign is in place and the Grand Opening was May 11th. At the Grand Opening, which was well-attended, visitors spun a wheel to win prizes, and $150 was raised for the Unified Sports program at Springville-Griffith Institute. A guitarist, Alyn Syms, played pleasantly throughout the day.
