The new Carribiean-inspired restaurant coming to the Gibson Mill Market is the latest from Dennis Rhea, the owner of the Charlotte-based barbecue caterer Bad Mother Smokers BBQ, according to Charlotte Observer. Customers can expect island classics, such as Cuban sandwiches, jerk chicken with rice and gandules (pigeon peas), and Mojo pork with tostone. Construction on the space begins this week, with an opening planned for later this year.
“Mi Isla’s mission is to create an immersive and memorable dining experience that leaves a lasting impression on every visitor and to help people from the Caribbean remember their roots when they taste the authentic flavors from home right here in Concord, North Carolina,” Rhea tells Charlotte Observer.
Mi Isla, Island Cuisine will join several other food and drink options already open, such as Barco’s Sports and Raw Bar, Churn Buddies, Johnny Rogers BBQ & Burgers, Kuni’s Kitchen, and more. Most recently, Livy’s Neapolitan Pizzeria opened on Monday, August 7, offering Neapolitan-style pizza baked in an Italian brick oven. The new concept comes from the team behind Heist Brewery and Heist Brewery, and Barrel Arts. The new additions prove the former textile mill turned food hall is nowhere close to slowing down its offerings of new and unique restaurant concepts.
