De La Salle golf is dominant once more, wins CIF-Northern California title by 13 strokes

No letting up for the defending state champions, which get a 4-under par round by Jaden Dumdumaya at Berkeley Country Club

The best team on De La Salle's campus in Concord may continue to be its golf team.

The Spartans, coming off one of the most dominating seasons in state history, showed the 2023 team isn't far behind, if at all, after taking Monday's CIF Northern California championship by 13 strokes at Berkeley Country Club in El Cerrito.

Jaden Dumdumaya, one of four returning players from last year's squad which won state by 11 strokes, shot a 4-under round of 68 as the Spartans finished with a team score of 3-under 357. Dumdumaya was the tournament's low-man overall.

Joshua Kim (70) and James Williams (71) were also under par for De La Salle, which won handily over runner-up Crystal Springs Upland-Hillsborough (370), Granite Bay (380) and Rocklin (382).

Campolindo and Stevenson (386), Amador Valley (387), Pleasant Valley (392), Carmel (396) and Lodi (416) rounded out the top 10 teams. The top three teams and qualifying individuals advance to the state championships May 31 at Poppy Hills GC in Pebble Beach.

Last season, De La Salle played four postseason tournaments in a combined 25-under-par and won the state tournament by 11 strokes over Torrey Pines and 19 strokes over third-place finisher Sunny Hills.

De La Salle is renowned for its football program, which once one a national record 151 games in a row (1992-2004) and had a Hollywood movie made about it — 'When the Game Stands Tall."

The all boys school all has had massive North Coast Section and Northern California success in baseball, basketball, soccer, wrestling, aquatics and track and field, which just captured the Meet of Champions Saturday night behind three wins from the school's 2022-23 Athlete of the Year, Udeh Chukwunonso.

The 2023 Southern California Regional Championship is Wednesday at Los Serranos GC in Chino Hills.
