COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) – Ohio State University parking has condensed its central campus with select garage parking passes into one new permit: the CG permit.

The CG Permit merged three previous separate permits – the CG, CP and Gateway Student permits – opting to offer six variations of the CG permit instead. Each of the six offers access to a different central garage, including overnight parking.

The annual cost of the permit is $1,229.28, or $102.44 per month. According to CampusParc, OSU’s parking service, that price tag makes it OSU’s most expensive student parking pass by several hundred dollars.

According to CampusParc, parking system changes are submitted annually for review by the university. They said the decision to merge the passes was to consolidate similar permits and standardize pricing; it was approved by the university this summer.

The CG permits are just one of many various parking passes OSU offers, but the CG permit is the only student permit with a waitlist.

Eligibility is based on how many credits students have completed, sorting them into three ranks. Rank 1 is students with 0-29 completed credit hours, Rank 2 is 30-59 completed credit hours and Rank 3 is 60 credit hours completed and above.

The six versions look like this:

    PERMIT GARAGE ELIGIBILITY
CG1 Tuttle Garage Rank 1 and higher
CG3 11th Ave and Union North Garages Rank 3 only
CG4 Lane Ave and West Lane Ave Garages Rank 1 and higher
CG5 Arps Garage Rank 1 and higher
CG6 Gateway Garage Rank 1 and higher
CG7 Union North Garage Rank 1 and higher

Despite some speculation online, all CG passes are not available for first-year students, which is consistent with university regulations preventing freshmen from parking on campus.

The CG pass allows parking at all times, something many permits limit. This includes peak access from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, overnight parking, and parking during events.
