The Ohio State football program had its worst Draft showing in over a decade

There were only four Ohio State football players who were taken in the 2024 NFL Draft. That was the fewest in the last 11 years.

The Ohio State football program was expecting a bigger weekend. They thought they would get at least six or seven players drafted this year. Some were expected to be drafted in the sixth or seventh round of the Draft. Instead, not a single Buckeye was taken in either of those rounds.

Just four Buckeyes were taken in the 2024 NFL Draft. Marvin Harrison Jr. was the first one taken, being the fourth overall pick. Tommy Eichenberg was the last one taken, being selected in the fifth round. Mike Hall and Cade Stover were taken in the second and fourth rounds respectively.

It was the fewest number of Buckeyes that got drafted in 11 years. Several Buckeyes signed some undrafted free-agent deals, but that's not the point. The point is that these guys come to Ohio State to be drafted at the next level. That didn't happen this year.

One of the reasons why that was the case is because of how many guys decided to return and make a run at a national championship. There could have been at least five other players who would have been drafted if they had decided to leave early.

Still, this is something that's slightly alarming considering that Ryan Day has been leading the program for six full seasons now. This is firmly his program and the Buckeyes should be producing draft classes of at least five or six players every year regardless of the circumstances.

Next season, the Buckeyes will more than make up for it. They could have as many as 15 guys taken in the 2025 NFL Draft, including possibly three first-round picks. Hopefully, they get to leave school after having won a national championship with the Ohio State football program first.

We're happy for all of the new pro Buckeyes. We're hoping they have long and successful NFL careers.
