COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two people were arrested after a vehicle that was reported stolen from Columbus Monday morning crashed on state Route 315 near Grandview Heights.
Just before 8:30 a.m. Officers with the Grandview Heights Division of Police spotted a Ford Focus that was reported stolen from Columbus in their jurisdiction. The vehicle was traveling east on West 5th Avenue at Dublin Road.
The officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop at Olentangy River Road at state Route 315 south ramp, but the people inside the Ford Focus drove away from the scene. Police said the officers did not engage in a pursuit of the stolen vehicle.
The Ford Focus struck a dump truck near the Interstate 670 ramp on state Route 315 South. The vehicle lost control, continued onto the ramp and crashed into a guardrail at the ramp to I-670. Two suspects exited the car and ran away from the scene into a grassy area.
10TV crews saw the suspects hopping a fence shortly before they were taken into custody by police.
None of the officers were injured in the incident. One of the suspects was transported to the hospital with possible injuries. The second suspect was treated at the scene.
Police believe the suspects are not connected to the Kia Boys, a group of juveniles and teenagers accused of stealing Kia and Hyundai models.
Officers also recovered suspected narcotics from one of the suspects.
One of the suspects, Douglas Banner Jr., is charged with receiving stolen property and felony eluding - failure to comply. He is scheduled to appear in Franklin County Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
