Man identified in fatal north Columbus grocery store shooting

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — One person has died after being shot by a security guard in a parking lot outside of a north Columbus grocery store on Thursday night.

Authorities responded to reports of a shooting at the Kroger on the 1700 block of Morse Road at 10:15 p.m., according to the Columbus Division of Police. Officers found someone in the parking lot who said he was robbed at gunpoint by two suspects.

One of those suspects was shot by a security guard who said he witnessed the robbery and attempted to intervene, according to police. Medics took the suspect to Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead at 11:12 p.m.

On Friday afternoon, Columbus police identified the deceased as 19-year-old Juan Cuarenta.

The second suspect fled on foot, and police have yet to identify them. Early Friday, police said that a black car was towed from the parking lot and was somehow involved in the shooting.
