A Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Judge sentenced a Columbus man to 13 years in prison for multiple robberies.
Judge Carl Aveni sentenced Raylin Jarrett, 25, to 13 years in prison following his guilty plea to aggravated robbery with a 3-year firearm specification and 12 counts of robbery.
On March 31, 2021, Jarrett was involved in a robbery at a Speedway on Hamilton Road in Whitehall. Jarrett was one of two suspects that took money from the cash register along with a customer's cell phone.
Between June and August 2021, Columbus police investigated 12 robberies at convenience stores and gas stations that were similar to the March Speedway robbery. Witnesses in most of the incidents described the suspects' appearance and clothing in the same way, Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney Gary Tyack said in a statement.
Surveillance footage from a funeral home, located near a Dollar General store that was robbed, showed a distinctive silver Pontiac G6 parked across the street. The driver that was seen getting out of the car was the same person seen on the store's security camera committing the robbery.
On August 2, a Columbus police officer was conducting an unrelated traffic stop of a Pontiac G6 when the front passenger was identified as Jarrett. Police searched the vehicle and found several articles of clothing that matched the description of the robbery suspects provided by witnesses and seen on stores' surveillance cameras.
