COLUMBIA, S.C. — Lamont Paris has started the process of rebuilding his second Gamecock roster. Paris has landed his first commitment from the transfer portal as point guard Ta'Lon Cooper has committed to South Carolina.

Cooper played for 5A powerhouse Dorman and began his career at Morehead State before transferring to Minnesota.

Last season, Cooper averaged 9.8 points and his 6.3 assists per game finished in the top 10 nationally.

At Morehead State, he was an All-OVC selection for the 2021-2022 season as he averaged 9.1 points and 5.9 assists per game with a career-best 4.5 rebounds per game.

Cooper, who has one year of eligibility left, is going through the NBA draft process to get feedback from professional scouts.

By landing a 6-4 point guard in Cooper, Paris will have the flexibility to slide Meechie Johnson and Jacobi Wright to shooting guard.
