Seventh Heaven: USC Strachan granted eligibility for a seventh season in college

South Carolina edge rusher suffered a torn ACL in game two of the 2022 season.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Jordan Strachan will get another chance for one final impression in a Gamecock uniform.

On Tuesday, South Carolina head football coach Shane Beamer announced that Strachan had been granted eligibility by the NCAA for the 2023 season.

The edge rusher suffered a season ending knee injury against Arkansas in game two of the 2022 season. Strachan has not been a part of spring practice as he continues the rehabilitation process with his knee. He petitioned the NCAA for an extra year and with that granted, Strachan will be gearing up for his seventh season in college.

He came to Georgia State as a walk-on safety in 2017 and developed into quite the pass rusher after his move to linebacker. He suffered his first season-ending knee injury in 2019 and took a redshirt year. In 2020, the redshirt junior responded in a big way, earning Third Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors as he tied for first in FBS with a school-record 10.5 sacks. He also set the school record with 14.0 tackles for loss, ranking second in the Sun Belt with 1.4 TFLs per game.

Strachan would transfer to South Carolina and will enter his third season in Columbia.

He tied his career-high with six tackles in the Arkansas game, including 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack. But then he left the game with the knee injury and his chances for a big 2022 season were derailed. But the 6-5 Strachan is working hard to return to the field for his final season in the Gamecock program.
