Columbia High School received the South Carolina High School League’s (SCHSL) Excellence in Sportsmanship Award. The award is presented to schools that exemplify outstanding sportsmanship.

Columbia High received a banner for achieving this award on March 14 during the South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association’s spring conference in Charleston.

This is the second year in a row Columbia High received this distinction. Last year, the school was the only one in South Carolina to receive this award. This year, it was one of two schools to receive this distinction.

“We’re very honored to have received this award for the second year in a row,” said Columbia High Athletics Director Paul Calvert. “It takes the entire athletics department to achieve this distinction. It takes a lot of dedication to teach our student-athletes about good sportsmanship.“

Among the requirements for a banner, the school’s athletics department must complete at least four community service activities throughout the year. There must be no athlete or coach ejections during a season, and there must be no sportsmanship issues involving fans at games.
