Boone County sheriff’s investigators continued to search for whoever shot and killed two teenagers and injured four other teenagers during a weekend party.
The shooting happened in a vacant home in the 2600 block of Oakbrook Drive, north of Columbia.
Boone County sheriff’s investigators said the dead teenagers are 16 and 17.
The four other people, between the ages of 16 and 19, had non-life-threatening injuries.
Several witnesses who want to remain anonymous spoke with KRCG.
A woman said she thought she heard fireworks early Sunday morning.
She said she eventually found out she heard gunshots after authorities questioned her.
Investigators said dozens of people were at a party in a vacant home when a verbal disturbance broke out between two groups.
Deputies said the fight escalated to gunshots.
“We have received some information," said Boone County Sheriff’s Department Captain Brian Leer.
"Obviously, there’s evidence on the scene that we continue to collect. That will be examined, as well. Anything that we come up with on the evidentiary side, we will definitely work to find out anything we can and try to piece together anything that we can.”
Witnesses told KRCG no one had lived in the vacant home for several months.
One witness said they saw teenagers driving in circles at the end of a nearby cul-de-sac shortly before the shootings.
“It’s going to be a pretty in-depth, long investigation," Leer said. "I know a lot of people out there want answers and they want them quick. I totally understand that. On the flip side, we have to do our due diligence. We’re limited to the information that people will provide.”
Deputies had made no arrests and had not released any information about a motive.
Sheriff’s investigators want anyone with any information about the shooting to call Columbia CrimeStoppers at 573-875-TIPS to remain anonymous.
