Nestled in upstate New York’s Hudson Valley, Columbia County is home to sprawling estates and beautiful mountain landscapes. With its unique blend of rural living and charming small towns known for vibrant artist galleries, many have chosen this scenic area as their primary or secondary residence.
The city of Hudson, in particular, is an up-and-coming town popular with young professionals and tourists looking to escape New York City life. It is also unique in the fact that it has been home to an active synagogue since the late 1800s. With the establishment of Chabad of Columbia County, the possibilities for growth of the local Jewish population is enormous.
“People here have greeted us very warmly,” says Rabbi Mendel Kremer. “From our public Menorah lighting to seeing the reaction to our children walking the streets in their Purim costumes and to receiving their first box of Shmura Matza, the response of Jewish residents has been incredible.”
The Kremers are excited to establish a permanent home for Jewish life in the area. They plan to offer various programs, activities and services for Jews of all ages and affiliations. Rabbi Kremer, a Certified Mohel with over 5 years of experience, will also be offering his services in this regard. He can be contacted via his website ChabadMohel.com.
Rabbi & Mrs. Kremer are being brought down by Regional Head Shliach of Northeastern New York State, Rabbi Yisroel Rubin and Assistant Regional Director, Rabbi Mendel Rubin. They would like to thank Rabbi Hanoch Hecht of Chabad of Dutchess County, for his warm welcome and invaluable assistance in bringing a Shliach to Columbia County.
They would also like to thank Rabbi Chaim Drizin, who has been giving shiurim and assisting the local Jewish population in Columbia County for many years, and was instrumental in facilitating a permanent Chabad Center in the area.
