What a difference a year makes.

Colts Neck sophomore Ethan Weinberg carded a 1-under-par 71 Monday to capture the season-opening Wall Invitational at Jumping Brook Country Club in Neptune.

Weinberg, who led the tournament last year as a freshman but double bogeyed the final hole, was the only player under-par in the 34-player, 10-team tournament on the par 72 layout.

Weinberg was not to be denied Monday as he had birdies on holes 17 and 18 to secure the win over runner-up junior Brooks Cahill-Sanidas of Princeton (73) and Monmouth junior Jack Hennelly (74), who finished third.

Westfield senior and Georgetown-bound Barnes Blake, the defending NJSIAA individual state champion and NJ.com’s Player of the Year in 2022, along with senior teammate and Skidmore College-bound Tate Esler each tied for fourth place with a 2-over-par 74.

Westfield, No. 1 in the NJ.com Top 10 Preseason rankings, won the team title with a score of 308, 10 strokes ahead of host and runner-up Wall (318).

Colts Neck and Princeton (320) tied for third place and Rumson-Fair Haven (333) finished fifth to round out the top five.
