Men arrested Monday in 3 Colorado Springs bank robberies

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Police now have two men in custody following an attempted bank robbery spree in Colorado Springs .

According to police, the men went to their first bank on May 30 and attempted to hold it up, but left empty-handed. The attempted robbery was at the Chase Bank in the 3700 block of Bloomington Street.

Monday, they tried again, visiting the U.S. Bank at Pikes Peak and Circle just after 12:30 p.m. Once again, the robbery was unsuccessful.

Police say the same two men then walked into the First Bank branch off of North Union and Briargate Boulevard just before 3 p.m. Monday and demanded money. This time, they got what they came for and fled the area. But they didn’t enjoy freedom for long.

“Soon after the incident, robbery detectives located the suspect vehicle parked at a residence in the 4900 block of Raindrop Place,” CSPD said in an updated blotter entry Tuesday morning. “The Tactical Enforcement Unit assisted with containing the residence. Thirty-one-year-old Devontai Stuckey, and 34-year-old Travis Townsend, exited the residence and were taken into custody. A search warrant of the residence was completed where additional evidence was recovered.”

The sight of police cars outside the Briargate-area bank was a surprise for customers like Nevaeh Phillips, who had swung by the bank for what she thought was just a normal errand.

“I came here to get some money. I needed gas and Chipotle,” Phillips, who pulled up just after police, told 11 News. “I see the police officers here, and I was like, ‘Who robbed the bank?’ I walk in and ... somebody had robbed the bank. So here I am, not to get money, because somebody robbed the bank.”

And according to police, those somebodies are now in custody. Stuckey and Townsend are facing charges in all three crimes.
