Biden tripped on stage at the US Air Force Academy graduation
By Kelsey Vlamis,Brent D. Griffiths,
President Joe Biden stumbled during a ceremony at the Air Force Academy.
The White House said he was fine after he appeared to have tripped over a sandbag.
Biden previously fell of his bike last summer and once fractured his foot while playing with his dogs.
President Joe Biden tripped on stage at the graduation ceremony for the US Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs, Colorado, on Thursday, but was not injured, the White House said.
The 80-year-old delivered a commencement address to the academy's class of 2023. Video showed Biden tripping while he was on stage shaking hands. He fell to the ground and was quickly helped up by several people. After getting up, he appeared to point back at something, possibly what he tripped over.
Ben LaBolt, the White House communication director , said Biden tripped over a sandbag and is uninjured. According to a White House pool report filed by The Washington Times' Jeff Mordock, the president pointed to a sandbag "suggesting that's what he tripped on."
Biden's stumbles have long been the subject of conservative fodder, including appearing in Republican attack ads. The latest episode once again raises questions about Biden's status as the oldest president in US history. Democrats have conceded that Biden's age will be an issue in his re-election campaign, but Biden himself has bristled at suggestions that he is not up to the job of leading the nation.
Beyond occasional stumbles up Air Force One's steps, Biden fell off his bike while riding near his beach house in Delaware last summer. The president appeared uninjured and told reporters after "I'm good." In a more serious incident, then President-elect Biden fractured his foot while playing with one of his dogs in November 2020. He was later forced to wear a walking boot as his foot healed.
