    Mexican national sentenced for drug trafficking in west Texas

    ALPINE, Texas — A Mexican woman was sentenced to over eight years in prison for her intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine in the United States, according to federal court documents.

    Sandra Araceli Diaz Vazquez, 37, of Chihuahua, Mexico, was suspected of drug trafficking within the U.S. On Dec. 5, 2023, law enforcement officers pulled her over along Interstate 20 near Colorado City, Texas, after witnessing her commit two moving violations. Diaz Vazquez consented to a search of her vehicle, leading to the discovery of approximately 20.2 kilograms of methamphetamine and 5.6 kilograms of fentanyl hidden within the fuel tank.
