Mt. Shasta Ski Park targets December opening as El Niño winter nears
The strong El Niño being forecast for far Northern California could bring a warmer and wetter season than usual this winter, just as Mt. Shasta Ski Park prepares to open around the holidays for what employees hope will be a busy time. "Everyone's talking about this super El Niño, and we're hopeful it delivers a big winter," ski park spokeswoman Grace Hornbeak said in a news release. "But we didn't want to count on it. That warm finish is short-lived: Monday drops to 71, and rain chances may arrive late Monday night before continuing Tuesday and into Wednesday. Sunday may be the last easy excuse for summer clothes, but a jacket will soon earn its keep.
