A woman died on Monday after they were found unresponsive at Edisto Beach, Colleton County Fire-Rescue Captain K.C. Campbell confirmed to News 4.

Several agencies responded to the 800 block of Palmetto Boulevard on Monday for reports of a drowning. Local police said they were dispatched around 3:04 p.m.

First responders found a young adult female victim who was not breathing and did not have a pulse, Campbell said. Despite their efforts to resuscitate the swimmer, the victim did not survive.

Police said a "good Samaritan" had pulled the victim out of the water and, as a nurse, was providing care before first responders arrived.

The Colleton County Coroner's Office responded to the scene. Coroner Richard Harvey did not immediately provide any details into the investigation.

Edisto Beach Fire also responded to the scene.
