Texas A&M football gets verbal commitment from uber-athletic defensive back Jamar Beal-Goines

Texas A&M football continues to build their 2025 class ahead of the summer. This latest commitment comes from a prospect that, per reports, was identified specifically and pursued hard by Aggie secondary coach Jordan Peterson: Jamar Beal Goines of Phoenix, Arizona.

Beal-Goines is a cornerback who, though not rated highly, appears to be an extremely freaky athlete. How about these numbers: 4.29 laser-timed 40-meter dash, 11.5-foot broad jump, 42.5-inch vertical, and 10.43 100-meter dash. There are very few NFL players who would measure up to some of those numbers!

Even so, Beal-Goines is only rated as a three-star via the 247Sports Composite, and is outside the top 300 players at 435 overall. Such a rating raises a lot of questions, in my book: is Beal-Goines simply a guy who has flown under the radar up until this point?

When I write about recent commits like this, I try to be fair to the talent evaluators even if I disagree with them. I try to state my reasons why I think a given player should be ranked more highly and temper those with reasons why the evaluators may have him slotted lower.

In this case, however, I can think of no reason other than neglect as to why this guy is so far down the list as a prospect. At 6'0" and 170 LBs, it's not as though he's tiny for a corner. He has decent length to go along with this top-shelf (indeed, five-star level) athleticism. Watching the tape shows that he is not lacking in play speed, physicality, or ball skills.

The only thing that I can conclude is that he is rated so low because of a lack of spotlight. Coach Peterson identified him early on and made his recruitment a personal mission despite the lack of national attention, though, and now has gotten this one over the finish line.

Given his elite athleticism, I wouldn't be surprised if the Aggies are getting a punt/kick returner as well as a corner with this pickup. With Elko's background at developing corners, I think it is more likely than not that Beal-Goines leaves Texas A&M football as a high-upside NFL prospect.
