Cougars, Wolverines record conference sweeps
Coleman 3, STAA 0
COLEMAN — The Coleman girls volleyball team dispatched Saint Thomas Aquinas Academy in straight sets 3-0 on Thursday.
The Cougars cruised to a 25-9 victory in the opening set but the Cavalettes tightened the scores up in the ensuing two matches despite suffering losses of 25-16 and 25-23.
Skylar Broderick tallied three aces and a team-high 19 assists for Coleman. Vivian Kostreva added four blocks and four kills, while Annabell Markiewicz notched eight digs.
Kate Peters collected four kills and an ace for STAA. Jenna Maxwell recorded two aces and one dig, and Maddie Drees tacked on eight assists.
Up nextColeman (6-3 Marinette and Oconto Conference, 8-7 overall) hosts STAA (0-9 M&O, 0-9 overall) and Niagara (8-1 M&O, 13-7 overall) in an M&O triangular on Tuesday, with action getting underway at 4:30 p.m.
Crivitz 3, Gillett 0
CRIVITZ — The Gillett girls volleyball team appeared ready to test Crivitz, but a spirited first set gave way to a pair of blowouts, as the Wolverines claimed a 3-0 sweep of the Tigers on Thursday.
The Tigers pushed Crivitz to the brink in the opening set before succumbing 26-24, but the Wolverines regrouped and handily won sets two and three by way of 25-14 and 25-11 decisions.
Lilli Watson led Crivitz in both aces (10) and digs (10), while Tayah Werner contributed eight kills and five assists. Hattie Frievalt picked up a team-high 17 assists.
Gillett did not report any stats at press time.
Up nextCrivitz: The Wolverines (7-3 M&O, 11-6 overall) are off until October 3, when they hit the road to take on STAA at 5:30 p.m.
Niagara 3, Lena 1
NIAGARA — The Niagara girls volleyball team fended off Lena 3-1 on Thursday.
The Lady Badgers looked ready to cruise to a sweep after winning the first two sets 25-16 and 25-22, but the Wildcats staved off elimination with a 25-22 triumph in set No. 3. Niagara iced matters with a 25-21 decision in the fourth set.
Reagan Frappier poured in 15 assists and four aces for the Lady Badgers. Mallory Sanicki recorded 15 kills and 12 digs and Emma Broullire authored three blocks.
Lena did not report any stats at press time.
