Ballinger man charged with Coleman County murder
COLEMAN COUNTY, Texas — A 42-year-old man was found dead at a Coleman RV park Friday evening. A 30-year-old Ballinger man has been charged in his death. The Texas Department of Public Safety said in a release Saturday that at around 7 p.m. Friday, Coleman Police Department officers responded to a shots fired call at the Coleman RV Park on US Hwy 84.

Coleman County – On Friday, September 22, 2023, around 7:00 P.M., the Coleman Police Department (CPD) responded to a call of shots fired at the Coleman RV Park located in the 1400 block of US Highway 84. Officers responded and discovered a deceased male victim with apparent gunshot wounds. The murder suspect had fled from the scene before police arrived. After a brief investigation, police located the suspect, and he was taken into custody without incident. The victim of the shooting was identified as James Slayton, 42 years of age, male from Coleman. The murder suspect was identified as Seth Savage Slayton, 30 years of age, male from Ballinger, Texas. Seth Slayton was booked into the Coleman County jail for murder. The Texas Rangers were called and are assisting in this investigation.

South Coleman County VFD Station Almost Completed
South Coleman County Volunteer Fire Department received a $9,000 grant from the Volunteer Fire Department Grant, through the Community Foundation of Abilene. The grant provided funding for electrical wiring and LED lighting in the new fire station addition located in Voss. The department has been fundraising for three years and has spent several months on construction. Volunteers sealed the concrete floors. The station is nearly complete. An Open House for the fire station is planned for October.

Slight Chance for Rain Thursday
We could see some rain today but it is more of a hit and miss scenario. Early this morning, a weather disturbance was making its way through West Texas and was producing showers between Big Lake and Midland as of 6:00 am. As the disturbance approaches Coleman County, it's possible for a few isolated showers or storms to develop on a hot day where temperatures are expected to reach the middle 90's today.
