QUINCY TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – More information has been released by the Branch County Sheriff’s Department concerning the May 21 officer involved shooting incident in Quincy Township.
Branch County Sheriff Deputies and Coldwater Police were assisting Quincy Police in executing a search warrant at a property on U.S. 12 on the east side of Quincy in connection with a narcotics investigation.
As Deputies and Coldwater Officers entered the front door, the Sheriff’s Department say they were met by an aggressive dog that had bitten one the officers in the left hand.
Being unable to subdue the dog during the attack, the Sheriff’s Office says officers had to shoot the dog. The dog survived the shooting.
During this action, Sgt Matthew Schoenauer of the Coldwater Police Department obtained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his left foot.
It has been determined the gun shot came from a Sheriff Deputies weapon. Schoenauer was treated and released from the hospital the same day.
The investigation continues between Branch County Sheriff’s Office and the Coldwater Police Department.
Assisting at the scene were the Branch County Sheriff Reserves, the Quincy Fire Department and Life Care ambulance.
